Technological progress and the development of user needs generate various possibilities for libraries. In addition to traditional functions, libraries begin to implement an open and hybrid library model. They also acknowledge the function of "the library as the third place" formulated by Ray Oldenburg. It is even said that there has been a real library boom in recent years. How do libraries undergo these changes (in terms of architecture, technology and dissemination) and do they sacrifice their "identity" of public libraries?; what is the organizational culture of libraries described nowadays by Prof. dr hab. Elżbieta Barbara Zybert in her publications, and, finally, do the changes really need a "noisy" promotion? How to convince librarians and users to make the necessary changes? How to interest the media in the promotion of new library services? What are the limits of new offers? Consequently, what should be done so that the "third place" does not replace the most important functions of libraries?
The premise of the conference is a confrontation of views and opinions of theoreticians and practitioners from the country and abroad on the subject of the space of contemporary multi-functional facilities, including multimedia libraries - architectural, social and virtual space (cloud library), cultural, educational and scientific space, the recipient's space, the librarian's and animator's space and the space of collections. An important goal is to present the most interesting architectural and functional solutions (from media libraries in Wrocław to Sopoteka in Sopot). We will discuss added values ascribed to contemporary libraries: culture (the ability to adapt it to contemporary space and libraries), new technologies in libraries (e-services) and their acceptance by users as well as implementations and modernizations in large and smaller public libraries.
The governmental program for enabling and inspiring infrastructural changes in public libraries remains the leading inspiration for the scientific debate: the Multi-Year Culture + Programme (from 2011), Priority "Library + Library Infrastructure 2011-2015" and National Readership Development Programme from 2016, Priority 2 "Library Infrastructure 2016-2020" .
We hope that a creative meeting of theoreticians and practitioners and an exchange of contacts and experiences will result in further investments strengthening the potential of public libraries, favoring the development of their offers and the role played by these cultural institutions in local communities.

The conference will be interdisciplinary. The conference language will be Polish. The Scientific Board of the conference reserves the right to select particular topics from the papers submitted. Speakers whose papers have been accepted by the Scientific Board will be informed by e-mail by 15th October 2018. The organizers envisage the following timings for presentations: long papers - 20 minutes, short papers - 10 minutes. Please save presentations in PowerPoint format (ppt 97-2013). For the duration of the conference, computers and multimedia projectors will be provided by us. The conference program will be announced in a separate press release. The fee for each participant involved in the conference as a speaker accepted by the Scientific Board is 250 zł (zlotys), and is 150 zł for other participants in the conference.
VAT is not included if the conference fee is covered in at least 70% from public funds.
The fee covers organizing costs, conference materials, food and participation in accompanying events.
